Aggression to dogs behaviour consultation - how it works;
The
Behaviour Practitioners are approved by many Pet Insurace companies
to see your pet when referred by your Veterinarian.
A
Canine Behaviour Consultation relating to a dogs aggression to
other dogs will lasts approximately two hours. The information
below will guide you through a typical aggression consultation
that you may wish to book at the Centre, Clinic or your home.
Consultation
fees at the Centre are from £175.00
Consultation
fees at the Clinic (Fulham) from £195.00
Consultation
fees at your home from £225.00
After
your initial contact via the telephone and an explanation in
brief of the problem that you wish to be present to the practitioner,
your details will be recorded and the relevant psychological
profile forms will be sent to you (a standard profile form one
specific to your dogs behaviour with other dogs) via e-mail or
post for completion prior to the meeting.
The
completed forms can be sent in advance or handed in at the begining
of your consultation. This helps speed up the process and gives
us a background of your dog, its lifestyle and the aggression
problem.
A consultation room and practitioner will be allocated to you and
your dog and they will take you through what to expect during the
consultation and in private.
The
consultation begins and over coffee the practitioner will begin
to gather the pertinent information. It is vital in most cases
that the appropriate questions are asked and answered in respect
of the aggression in order to build up a complete and accurate
picture so that the correct behavioural diagnosis is made.
The
second part of the Consultation will be for testing in the dogs
aggressive responses to other dogs. We have a number of trained
dogs of both genders to use for the tests.
The
practitioner will then explain what they believe that the problem
is, ie the type of aggression and its cause or probable cause.
You can expect complete honesty from your practitioner and no
false hopes will be given. You will be informed of the realistic
chances of stopping the aggression, reducing it or managing the
aggression through control.
Understanding
how dogs learn is important and this will be explained to you
in detail. Pertinent training and handling techniques will be
demonstrated to you by example in situ. Any equipment recommended
will be discussed and demonstrated.
Upon
completion of the meeting, you will receive some relevant behavioural
information in written form pertaining to the entire consultation
and discussions.
Thereafter,
your practitioner will write a full report including all of the
new behaviour programmes that you are advised to implement with
your dog. The report writing time is in excess of two hours work
and is included in the consultation fee. A copy of this is sent
to your Veterinarian unlss you request otherwise.
After
the consultation we aim to get your report issued as soon as
possible as we are aware that the information imparted may be
difficult to remeber fully. We encourage much telephone or e-mail
contact so that we can assess your progress and perhaps impart
further advice if required.
It
is sometimes advised that you attend our dog training courses
after the consultation, which of course is your choice if recommended.
Please view the training section of this site. this is particularly
useful from our point of view for continuity advice.
