Adult
Dog Training Courses
Each
dog, like each person
is different and so requires different training methods. In the
main, we use lure andreward training with food or toys initially,
this works well for most dogs and owners. The
dog learns a command,an action and a consequence. Our training
instructors will work with you and suggest training methods and
plans as the lessons progress.

– Training Schedules
The
success of the course is largely dependant on you. Every week
after the lesson you will be handed a training schedule for the
coming week. This details the exercises and training you
should practice and in what location. You should practice three
times twenty minutes per day formally i.e.; whilst out on a walk
or on a lead around the home. Also we encourage you to use all
of your daily routines in addition to the formal training. When
feeding the dog make the dog sit, or down before you place the
bowl/Kong on the floor. When washing up, put the dog in to a
down stay. Call your dog to you in the home and give him a tasty
treat. I.e.; your dog is in the kitchen and you are in the lounge
call him like mad and reward him with something special. Begin
to condition him to want to return to you!

This
course is for eight weeks duration, and we expect you to apply
all of the training skills that you learn on a daily basis for
eight weeks. The most important part, aside from gaining as much
information, advice and practical demonstrations from us is to
use the training in all of the locations, environments and situations
with various stimuli as you are able. For the first week, training
in the home and garden is fine and on walks where practical.
Thereafter, the instructors will suggest locations for you to
attend depending on your skill and confidence and on the behaviour
of your dog.

All
family members should take part in the training of the dog ideally.
Dogs are situational learners and so often when one person does
all of the training with the family dog, he may not respond to
others issuing commands. This coupled with people's varying voice
tones and speech, the dog must learn commands from the whole
family.
This
does not mean that the whole family must attend the training
courses, but they should read the course prospectus and all
of the subsequent training recommendations issued.
