Referral Process for Dog Owners

Getting Referred By Your Vet

We work with a vast number of veterinary practices throughout London and the South East as well as much further afield for specialist canine behavioural issues.

If you think you might need our help with a severe behavioural issue it is advised that prior to booking an appointment with us, that your dog is fully assessed by your veterinarian; some behavioural problems have a medical cause, albeit rarely. For sudden onset behavioural changes, a veterinary visit is required. Please do contact us for recommendations in regard to recommendations of relevant veterinary tests specific to the behavioural issues that you are experiencing with your dog.

Your vet may refer by:

  • Suggesting that you make contact with us directly along with their veterinary referral letter or clinical history. (This is the most common procedure);
  • Writing a letter with their opinion on the behaviour in question to our practitioners and to book an appointment on behalf of their you;
  • Simply refer you verbally to our web site for information.
  • Complete our Veterinary referral form on this website.

Using Your Pet Insurance

Ross McCarthy and his Associates are full members of the Canine & Feline Behaviour Association of Great Britain (CFBA). Most pet insurance companies recognise the CFBA for clients who are referred by their veterinary surgeon.

It is suggested that the client contacts their insurance provider in advance of booking a consultation to check the details of cover and/or any exceptions within their specific policy type. If the client contacts us directly and wishes to use their pet insurance we explain procedure as above and ask them to contact their veterinarian to obtain a referral, either verbal or written depending on the company that the pet is insured with and their requirements.

We subsequently send an overview report to the referring veterinarian for their perusal if applicable. If the behaviour presented to us is such that we feel that a medical examination of the dog in question is relevant (to the exhibited behaviour problem) – we advise the client accordingly.

Consultation fees are payable at the consultation. In some cases, we will agree to be paid directly from the Pet Insurance Company, but this must be arranged prior to the consultation appointment.
